Jim Gates, aka "Little Jim" opened Little Jim's in June of 1975, in a previously operated tavern at 3501 North Halsted.
Despite the fact the area was in the shadows of Wrigley Field, and considered to be "rough" and lacking in other gay business, Little Jim saw an opportunity for growth and success on Halsted and the Lakeview area. Soon after, others saw the success of LJ's, and more bars began to open along Halsted.
Today, Halsted street is the center of Chicago's GLBT entertainment community, supporting restaurants, bars, taverns, nightclubs, and restaurants. You will find shopping, B & B's, salons, fitness facilities, and of course the Center on Halsted.
We invite you to stop in and have a drink, meet new friends, watch the game, meet our staff, and experience a part of Halsted, and Chicago history.
